format not supported with extension aac

i have files with extension .aac like "song.aac" and it will not play: "unsupported format or corrupt file"

But if i change it to "song.mp4" it will play just fine.

vlc said the codec of the files is MPEG AAC Audio(mp4a)

foobar2000 has never supported mismatched file name extensions versus file contents, or automatically detecting the content by so-called magic numbers dictionaries. Your files are obviously MPEG-4 container AAC audio, so they should have either .mp4 or .m4a extensions, not .aac.
